Of course you can! Anyone can do anything they dedicate themselves to learning. 2019+ has some exclusions and weirdness, which I won't get into here. I will not be detailing other years/bikes, but pretty much everything in the same Honda bike family as ours (CBR300r, CB300f, CRF250L, CRF300L, etc) can also be tuned using the same equipment/procedures. Can our bike's ECU's be "tuned"? I've heard it's not possible.Įmphatically, YES! They can be dumped/flashed. You may notice that performance has not increased to your liking it may be that the adjustment needed is out of the range the factory tune can adjust.ģ. If you have, or plan to, extensively modify the intake or exhaust or fueling system of your bike, the factory settings will not be enough to accurately respond to more extreme changes in engine operation these modifications require. The goal is to improve the performance of the bike for it's desired application/use. Some tunes are meant for performance, some are tailored for efficiency, and some are in between. Firstly, common questions to address.Ī 'tune' is simply a modification of the factory software/fuel/ignition reference data installed on your bike from Honda. So without further ado, here are a few common questions I've run into, and some resulting information to help clarify things. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR DOING YOUR OWN HOMEWORK ANYTHING YOU DO TO YOUR BIKE AND THE RESULTS OF YOUR MODIFICATIONS ARE YOURS 100% IN FULL. ANY ADVICE AND INFORMATION IS GIVEN FREELY AND WITH NO RESPONSIBILITY, WARRANTY, OR GUARANTEE EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED IN ANY WAY, SHAPE OR FORM. I will also include public resources pertaining to Honda motorcycle ECU flashing and factory files that are already public domain.ĭISCLAIMER: I DO NOT CLAIM TO BE AN EXPERT. Potentially this thread could be a sticky preceding anyone choosing to go down this path. While our bikes are considered antiquated by many at this point, most of these questions and data can be applied to many bikes, past and future. The upcoming tutorial thread will assume that you have read this, so that I do not have to repeat large amounts of information. In preparation for my upcoming thread DIY budget ECU tuning/flashing (patience it's a WIP), it would be a good placeholder to have a FAQ post detailing many unanswered questions, uncertainties, and ambiguities surrounding the ability to tune our bike's ECUs.
